STRAIGHTS

We use a wide range of seeds in our mixes and the following are all available as straights - in other words, on their own rather than in a mix. Please enquire with your requirements!

Oyster shell Grit.

During the breeding season, oyster shell grit is a useful feeding supplement. High in calcium, it ensures that egg shells are properly formed.

Niger Seed.

Often referred to as Thistle Seed, despite the fact that it isn't! These small, long black seeds are VERY popular with finches, particularly goldfinches. Being small, they are best fed from the specially designed niger feeders which we stock.

Cut Maize.

Maize that is chopped up into small pieces! Eaten mostly by larger birds such as collared doves and pheasants, but also eaten by smaller birds, including finches.

Hemp Seed

Hemp is an oil rich seed, liked by a wide range of birds. This is industrial hemp, not the narcotic variety, so there's no need to worry if some starts to sprout under the bird table - you won't be arrested!

Pinhead Oatmeal.

This is the same thing as the oatmeal that people over the border use to make oatcakes! Pinhead oatmeal is particularly popular with robins and other songbirds.

Canary Seed.

Popular with canaries (surprise, surprise!) Also enjoyed by other birds though, including finches and the tit family.

Millet.

Enjoyed by a whole host of seed eating birds.

Pine Nuts.

Used in our squirrel food, but pine nuts are eaten by other creatures, including parrots - not that you're likely to have any on the bird table.

Flaked Maize.

Not a lot you can say about flaked maize, really. It's just...well...flaked maize!

Rolled Oats.

You can't beat starting the day with a bowl of porridge, and the birds would agree. Rolled oats are particularly liked by the ground feeding birds.

Sultanas.

Much loved by blackbirds, thrushes and robins.
