SUNFLOWER SEEDS

Black sunflower seeds.

There was a time, not so very long ago, when the only thing that people fed to birds was peanuts. Fortunately, people are now more aware that birds do like a bit of variety in their diet! Sunflower seeds have been rapidly gaining popularity in the last few years, and with good reason. They are high in oils, very nutritious, and can be fed quite safely all year round. You can feed them from a bird table, on the ground, or from a feeder. Finches and the tit family are especially partial to sunflower seeds, and it's great fun watching their antics as they fly back and forth to grab another seed. If you're one of those people who dislikes the idea of having a cornfield under the bird table every spring, then it's worth giving sunflowers a go. You don't get any weeds, just a delightful show of cheerful sunflowers, which add a touch of the Mediterranean to your garden!

Sunflower hearts for birds.

If you don't fancy the idea of having sunflowers growing with your sweet williams, or can't be bothered with sweeping up the discarded husks from black sunflowers, then we suggest you try our sunflower hearts. These are simply sunflowers without their clothes on! They are very nutritious, very high in oils, and quite simply a fantastic food. Perfectly safe to feed at any time of year, and not really all that expensive, as there is no waste! Because they have no husks, they can turn soggy easier, so avoid putting out too much. Alternatively, use a seed feeder. Ours are top grade - no bits of shells or masses of broken seeds - just nutritious whole sunflower seeds
