Aflatoxins have always existed, but in recent years the public, and indeed the trade have become more aware of the potential problems they can cause.
Produced by a microscopic fungus, aflatoxins are toxic compounds which, if consumed in sufficient quantities can cause cancer and rapid death.
The problem is not exclusive to birds - humans can also be affected, but birds are more likely to suffer because they have only small amounts of body fat, and accumulations of toxins can build up very rapidly.
Aflatoxins are particularly dangerous because they are tasteless, and odourless, and even when a bird dies, the cause of death is not likely to be obvious, without detailed analysis.
Aflatoxin contamination of peanuts can be readily detected by laboratory analysis. All our peanuts are tested both at source, and on arrival in the UK, by an independent laboratory and are rejected if any trace of aflatoxin is present.
These are our standard grade of peanuts, usually in the 60/70 per ounce grading bracket. Owing to world supply problems, we currently only have in stock the premium Hsuji peanuts below.
Hsuji peanuts are the very best in peanuts! Whilst slightly more expensive than standard peanuts, they are of superb quality and go down really well with the birds.

Peanut nibs are small, bite-sized pieces of peanut, usually from the growing tip of the peanut. The growing point of any seed is where much of the goodness is stored, and as such, peanut nibs are a very nutritious food source. Peanut nibs are loved by a whole range of birds, and are included in virtually all our seed mixes. Hedgehogs also adore peanut nibs!

A red net bag of peanuts, ready to hang up wherever you like. Best avoided if you have a problem with crows though, as they do enjoy ripping them open! If this is the case, then you're better off using a wire peanut feeder.
